“They stated that they were willing to allow the Jews now in Palestine to remain as Palestinians, enjoying the same rights as Arabs, but they added that they would refuse to allow any Jewish canton, no matter how small… Shortly we will be able to bring more troops to Palestine and then we can wipe out the ‘Great Arab Rebellion’ here in less than a fortnight.

Martial law will do the trick and do it properly.”

Two sentences on one page that are worth reading against each other. Palestinian Arabs are quoted offering the Jews already in Palestine equal rights as Palestinians; a British officer is quoted promising to wipe out the rebellion in a fortnight with martial law.
