The Daily Argus · Mount Vernon, New York · 5 May 1938

Transcribed from the clipping

“The Youth Zionist organization held a symposium on Zionism last night with 75 guests attending. Milton Taub presided and gave a short talk on formation of the group and the work it has outlined for the future. Speakers included Kieve Skidell who reviewed the history of Palestine; Jacob Geleanter, who spoke on religious labor in Palestine; Leo Solkoff, who discussed the ideals of Zionism; Harry P. Fierst who talked on general Zionism, and Jules Freed, who spoke for the United Palestine Appeal. An exhibit of Palestinian foods and art work was conducted through the courtesy of ‘Palestine House.’”

Context added by this archive

A suburban club notice, kept for its last sentence. In 1938 an exhibit of Palestinian foods and art work at a Zionist youth meeting in Westchester means the produce and craft of the Jewish settlements. The archive holds the same usage seven years later in New Bedford, where a Palestinian artist turns out to be a Jewish painter trained at the Bezalel academy.
