“By Thursday the Jews had occupied virtually all Arab villages in the vicinity… The Palestine Government is now shutting down the health, education, police, postal and law courts departments. Jews are taking over all these functions.”

Context added by this archive

Jon Kimche from Tel Aviv, five weeks before the state was declared. The piece is about administration rather than battle: the Mandate shutting its departments one by one and the functions passing across. Partition described as a thing being completed on the ground while it was still being argued at the United Nations.
