Use of Hebrew name ordered in West Bank

Use of Hebrew name ordered in West Bank TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) - Israeli Broadcasting Authority has ordered all state radio and television reporters to refer to the occupied West Bank by its biblical name, Judea and Samaria. The change was initiated Monday by nationalists on the government regulatory commission, who regard the West Bank as part of ancient Israel.
It coincides with an appeal by Jewish settlers in the West Bank town of Hebron who want the Supreme Court to ban the term West Bank in the state broadcasting media. Arabs object that, using the biblical name for the territory Israel captured from Jordan in the 1967 Mideast War, implies it is an integral part of the Jewish state.
Israel and Egypt are currently negotiating a form of autonomy for the 1.3 Palestinians on the West Bank of the Jordan River and the Gaza strip, and Egypt hopes the area eventually will become a Palestinia
