By byline
Every byline in the archive
1910 of the clippings in this archive carry a byline. 174 names appear on two or more of them, and those are listed here, with what ran under each.
A byline is what the paper printed. Nearly half of these clippings carry no byline at all, and a syndicated dispatch often runs under a different name, or none, from one masthead to the next; a name here is the credit on that page, not a claim about authorship. Names on a single clipping are left off, because one bad reading of one scan should not be enough to make a page. Agencies, datelines and credit lines — Associated Press, Jerusalem, Special to The New York Times — name nobody and are not listed.
