Thousands Pay Respects To Palestinian Leader

Transcribed from the clipping
“Thousands of Israeli Arabs and West-Bank Arabs streamed through a muddy, winding path to a hilltop cemetery in Musmus today to pay their respects to Rashed Hussein… Israeli policy has been to prohibit public funerals of Palestinian militants lest their graves become shrines for nationalist demonstrations.”
Context added by this archive
The poet Rashed Hussein, who died in a hotel fire in New York at forty-one. The sentence keeps two categories apart — Israeli Arabs and West-Bank Arabs — and then describes them walking up the same hill to the same grave.
