Three American papers carried Lydda and Er Ramle across 11 and 12 July 1948. This is the only one of the three whose main headline has the people in it, and it has them at one remove: they are reported fleeing. The Morning News the next day made the town the object of a capture (CP-1948-040). The two towns held tens of thousands of people between them.
In two of the three headlines nobody lives there.
