Arabs Blamed For Conditions In Palestine

“Arab landowners in the Middle East, threatened with loss of power through the introduction of democracy, are the ones waging war there, Dr. Ruth Gruber, foreign correspondent with the U. N. Palestine Committee, told a Youth Aliyah rally of the Senior Hadassah in the Jewish Community Center last night. ‘Ordinary Arabs and Jews can be brothers,’ she said, ‘but the handful of landholders are terrified by the Jews, who have brought the most democratic, cohesive and intelligent unit to the Near and Middle East.’… Palestine partition was inevitable, according to Dr. Gruber, for ‘the Jews had already created a state within a state; the Jews themselves made the map of partition by their settlements.’”

The same explanation as the 1936 Gazette piece, twelve years later, and a second claim beside it: that settlement had already drawn the partition line.
