“Israel’s 320,000 Arab citizens are being caught up in a cruel conflict of loyalties — one that spells a special brand of trouble in the endless torment of the… ‘I had always hoped to visit my family in Jordan, and suddenly that became possible after the six-day war. But I found something strange.
I went to these relatives as a citizen of Israel, including Israeli citizens… The reception they gave me was frigid. I was treated almost as a traitor and told I had sold my soul to Satan. I don’t go there any more.’”

A long 1969 feature on Palestinian citizens of Israel, quoting one of them on being treated as a traitor by his own relatives across the river.
It records that only two of Israel’s 200 judges are Arabs, and that Archbishop Joseph Raya of the Greek Catholic church in Galilee says social contact is minimal and Jewish residents live in upper Nazareth, the Arabs in lower Nazareth.
