Transcribed from the clipping

“HAMBURG, Germany (UPI) — Arabs, Jews and West Germans fought with fists, clubs and other weapons in Frankfurt and Hamburg Universities Wednesday night… There also was loud applause as placards hoisted on the platform by leftists were torn from their bearers. The placards bore such slogans as ‘Zionism is racism,’ ‘for the victory of the Palestinian revolution,’ and ‘Zionism must go.’ Then there was a mad scramble to get to the microphone by members of leftist so-called ‘extra-parliamentary opposition’ and supporters of the El Fatah Palestinian freedom movement… Most kept quiet as the questions and answers flew but there still were shouts of ‘El Fatah.’ These were gradually drowned out however by applause for the ambassador. The meeting broke up with no more fighting.”

Context added by this archive

The second American printing of the Hamburg placards, the same day, under a headline that turns a riot into a debate. Both papers kept the slogans. It runs above a bank robbery in Venezuela and a ruling that kept Coleman Young off the ballot for mayor of Detroit.
