Sides look to U.S. to help end killing
Knight Ridder Newspapers

Transcribed from the clipping
“As battles between Arab youths and Israeli forces raged Tuesday for the sixth day, hope turned to Washington and the international community to do what leaders here seem unable to do: stop the shooting…
Our working hypothesis is that the climax of the violence is still ahead of us, said Moshe Yaalon, the deputy chief of staff of the Israeli army. Tuesday’s worst scenes were again from Netzarim Junction in Gaza, a few yards from where the shooting death of a boy shocked the world.”
Context added by this archive
A second, separate article on a page this archive already held. Netzarim Junction is where Muhammad al-Durrah was killed four days before this was filed, and the paper places the day’s worst scenes a few yards from it.
Moshe Yaalon, who appears again in this archive four years later in a Chicago Tribune essay about the wall, is quoted saying the climax of the violence is still ahead. Found on 5 October 2026 when the full page was read.
