“CAIRO, Egypt, Dec. 11.—Open opposition in two Arab countries to King Abdullah’s apparent plan to annex Palestine to his Trans-Jordan realm was reported today. The weekly Cairo newspaper Akhbar El Yom said King Farouk had summoned the ministers of all Arab governments except Trans-Jordan and given them this oral message for their kings and presidents: ‘Egypt has not sacrificed the blood of her sons to throw the future of Palestine in the hands of those who attended the Jericho conference.’ A congress of Palestine Arabs at Jericho a few days ago petitioned Abdullah to proclaim himself king of a united Trans-Jordan and Palestine… Al Pachachi said the government was busy with a plan to carry out a parliament resolution for united political and military plans by all Arab governments to guarantee ‘the liberation of Palestine from the Zionists.’ King Farouk was reported in his message to other Arab governments to have stressed that the Arab ‘refugees who attended this (Jericho) conference were not in a position to give their views freely. Palestine Arab refugees will return to their homes when the hour of liberation of their country comes. They will then decide the future of their country in complete freedom.’ Meanwhile dispatches from Amman, Trans-Jordan capital, said the union of that country and Palestine was likely to be speeded by the impressions received by King Abdullah on his two-day tour of the districts of Bethlehem and Hebron this week. The Arab Legion of Trans-Jordan occupies those areas. The dispatch said Abdullah was greeted by hundreds and thousands everywhere who acclaimed him king.”
