The scan is the headline block; there is no body text on it to transcribe. The page was confirmed against the paper’s own page, whose masthead reads The Sunday Republican · established by Samuel Bowles, weekly in 1824; daily in 1844; Sunday in 1875 · Springfield, Massachusetts, Sunday, September 19. The Sunday edition of the Springfield papers carried its own masthead; the record is filed under the name the paper carries now.

Sunday 19 September 1982. The verb is massacred, in the top line, with nobody attached to it. The people are Arab refugees, which is what they had been since 1948. The Abilene Reporter-News the same morning put the same camp on page 12-A as an eyewitness piece about a smell and a sound (CP-1982-008).
This is the same Associated Press dispatch that the Abilene Reporter-News ran that morning under Sabra Camp Eyewitness: Stench of Death, Screams of Women (CP-1982-008) — William Foley’s first-person account of walking into the camp. Springfield led on the verb massacred; Abilene led on the witness.
