Photograph by Adel Hana of the Associated Press — the same photographer whose protester-with-flag frame The Free-Lance Star ran, here a different frame of masked protesters running past burning tyres. The entire story has been compressed into the caption, which reads: "Protesters run as tires burn Friday near the Gaza Strip border with Israel.

Israeli aircraft struck several militant sites across the Gaza Strip early Saturday shortly after militants fired rockets into southern Israel, the Israeli military said. Israel's chief of staff Lt. Gen.

Gadi Eisenkot conducted situational assessment while the airstrikes and barrages of rockets continued, the army added without elaborating. [ADEL HANA/THE ASSOCIATED PRESS]" This is the most compressed form the story takes anywhere in the batch: two sentences, and one of them is the Eisenkot sentence.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.

The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.

Something wrong here, or something you know about this clipping? The archive is still being built and corrections are wanted: maria@rozumstudio.com, quoting CP-2018-035.
