Transcribed from the clipping

It is highly regrettable that the the Israeli Parliament approved a controversial Nation-State Law, which enshrines in the nation's Basic Law its already-existing Jewish and Zionistic features.

How this transcription was made

Date and publication rest on the collector's slide label; no masthead, folio or printed dateline appears on this clipping. Legibility fair; any passage that could not be read is omitted rather than reconstructed.

Context added by this archive

2018 GROUP. Headline phrase for the law: 'Israel's Nation-State Law' - the only headline in the batch that names the law outright, capitalised, and passes judgment on it ('Unnecessary and Provocative'). 'Jewish nation-state' does not appear in the headline. WHO LOSES: the headline names no one.

ARABIC DEMOTION: the opening paragraph does not mention it; whether the body does could not be established at this scan quality and is flagged rather than asserted. Note the odd coinage 'Zionistic features', set as printed.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.

The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.

Something wrong here, or something you know about this clipping? The archive is still being built and corrections are wanted: maria@rozumstudio.com, quoting CP-2018-049.
