Palestine Arabs Plan Political Body
The Associated Press, Jerusalem

Transcribed from the clipping
“JERUSALEM —(AP)— First steps toward creating a representative body of Palestine Arabs have been taken by a newly formed sponsoring committee at Haifa. No official political body representing all Arabs of the country has existed since dissolution of the Arab High committee by the Palestine government in October, 1936, during disturbances.
Requests for support have been sent by the new committee to the government officials. A conference of leading Arab personalities from the entire country now is planned by the Haifa leaders.”
Context added by this archive
Twenty-one years before the PLO, and the reason there was no body already: the government had dissolved the last one.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.
The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.
Something wrong here, or something you know about this clipping? The archive is still being built and corrections are wanted: maria@rozumstudio.com, quoting CP-1943-001.
