“Tel Aviv, Palestine, May 4 (AP)—Irgun Zvai Leumi, Jewish warriors, said today they had captured the strategic Arab city of Yehudia, 12 miles east of Tel Aviv after an all-night battle with Arab defenders… Yehudia, one of the wealthiest Arab towns in Palestine, barred the main highway approach to Lydda airport, four miles to the south. The Irgun attack was the first operation since it pulled out of captured Manshieh Quarter in all-Arab Jaffa, where British forces are enforcing a truce. Irgun said its attack on Yehudia was made with knowledge and approval of Haganah.”
