Irgun Takes Arab City In Night Battle
Truce Continued In Jerusalem But Jewish Fighters Raid Nearby Mount

“TEL AVIV, Palestine—Irgun Zvai Leumi, Jewish warriors, said Tuesday they had captured the strategic Arab city of Yehudia, 12 miles east of Tel Aviv, after an all-night battle with Arab defenders… Yehudia, one of the wealthiest Arab towns in Palestine, barred the main highway approach to Lydda airport, four miles to the south… Most of Yehudia’s normal population of 10,000 left in recent weeks, but Irgun said the city was defended by Arab troops. Irgun said the Arab population fled from the nearby village of Kafr ’Ana when Yehudia fell.”
