‘They Killed My Mother———’

Fanimeh Ali Mustapha Zeiden, 12, comforts her 2-year-old sister Khadra in a hospital at Jerusalem, where both are being treated for wounds suffered when Jewish extremists attacked their Arab village of Deir Yasin, near the Holy City. “They killed my mother and my grandparents and some of my cousins,” Fanimeh said.

The same girl the Evening Star interviewed at length, photographed in the same week, and the two papers do not spell her name the same way. Here she is Fanimeh Ali Mustapha Zeiden; in the Evening Star of 12 April she is Fahimeh Ali Moustafa Zeidan. The Mingo Republican names the sister she is holding, Khadra, aged two.
The accounts of what she lost also differ: this caption says her mother, her grandparents and some cousins; the Evening Star records her mother, both grandparents, two brothers and a three-month-old sister.
