“VETERAN ARAB WARRIOR Fawzi el-Kawukji (second from right) poses with members of his bodyguard on arriving at the village of Tubas, in northern Palestine, presumably to take command of the Arab People’s Army of Liberation. After inspecting his armed forces, he declared: ‘Everything is ready. The battle starts when I give the word.’ The Arab leader headed the revolt in the late thirties against the British forces and the Jewish settlers in Palestine.” (International Radiophoto)
