EXILES TEACH ARAB SCHOOLS
By ZEIN NAGATI (AP Newsfeatures)

Transcribed from the clipping
SUHKNE, Hashemite Jordan — Arab refugee children are being taught by Arab refugee teachers in makeshift schools scattered through the camps of this country. The teachers are refugees themselves, driven from their homes in Palestine. Many of them had never taught before. Mahmoud Tayib, of Nazour, a village near Jaffa, is one of them.
How this transcription was made
Date and publication rest on the collector's slide label; no masthead, folio or printed dateline appears on this clipping. Legibility poor; any passage that could not be read is omitted rather than reconstructed.
Context added by this archive
The one clipping in the 1948-62 group that names an ordinary displaced Palestinian by name and home village: Mahmoud Tayib, of Nazour, near Jaffa. The people are called 'Arab refugees' and 'refugees ... driven from their homes in Palestine'. Because of legibility this record is the weakest in the batch and is marked accordingly.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.
The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.
Something wrong here, or something you know about this clipping? The archive is still being built and corrections are wanted: maria@rozumstudio.com, quoting CP-1949-037.
