Egypt, Israel Hurl Charges In Security Council Notes

“UNITED NATIONS, N.Y., April 9 (UP)—Israel charged Monday night that Egypt established fortified emplacements within cities of the Gaza Strip, making it ‘imperative’ for Israeli forces to silence the Egyptian batteries.
EGYPT CHARGED Israel with ‘aggression against peaceful civilians’ of the towns of Gaza, Khan Yunis and Dier El Balah last Thursday, killing 59 civilians and wounding 93. Both Israel Ambassador Abba S. Eban and Egyptian Ambassador Omar Loutfi sent letters to the United Nations Security Council.
‘ISRAEL HAS once again proven that its policy is based on aggression and that it does not hesitate to massacre civilians, women and children, without any consideration for law and tradition or its responsibilities,’ Loutfi said in his note to the council.
Eban charged Egypt with sending ‘armed sabotage and murder gangs’ into Israeli territory ‘for the terrorization of the civilian population’ in a ‘warlike act.’”

Both notes to the Security Council, printed side by side in one brief. Fifty-nine dead is a number inside a quotation, attributed to Egypt. “Dier El Balah” is the paper’s.
