“In the Gaza Strip, Israeli forces, apparently firing from helicopters, killed two 21-year-old male nurses at a hospital for rehabilitating the disabled, Palestinian officials said. The shooting, which the Israeli army said it was investigating, occurred shortly before midnight Wednesday.… The army said it was still investigating the death Wednesday of a 65-year-old woman, Kamla Said, who was crushed when Israeli forces demolished the family home of her stepson. She apparently did not hear the Israelis’ warnings to evacuate, her family said. The army said that its soldiers followed the proper procedure.… Near the Israeli-Arab town of Umm el-Fahm shortly after noon Thursday, officers of the border police stopped a man who was walking with a group of Palestinians and who aroused their suspicions… the police ordered the man to lift his shirt to demonstrate he was not wearing a bomb… Another officer then shot and killed the man, who was identified only as Arab.”

Fifteen months after a deaf man was shot near a watchtower because, the army said, he ignored spoken warnings, a woman of sixty-five is crushed in a demolition because, her family says, she did not hear them. In both cases the warning is the defence. He was never named. She is: Kamla Said. The same page reports two nurses killed at a rehabilitation hospital, and a man shot at Umm el-Fahm who is identified only as Arab.
