Transcribed from the clipping

“Landowners in the Gaza Strip had demanded that the United Nations Emergency Force pay rent for their camp sites and buildings… Officials are reported to have rejected the demand on the ground that they are guests of the Egyptian Government.”

Context added by this archive

The clearest small statement of the problem in the archive. People who own the ground are told the rent question is between two governments, because the force is a guest of one of them and was previously housed free by the other. Called one of the first instances of open friction between the people of the Gaza Strip and the international police force.
