Jesse Jackson Visits A Palestinian Camp, Sees Jewish Memorial

Shown from the top. The whole column is in the enlargement.
Transcribed from the clipping
“He applauded an old man in a white kaffiyeh headgear who told him that the refugees recognized the Palestine Liberation Organization as their voice. He gave a soul-brother handshake to a young Palestinian who said he had been arrested and tortured by the Israelis.”
Context added by this archive
Jackson at Kalandia camp, three weeks after Andrew Young resigned over meeting the PLO. Shipler writes the handshake rather than the position, which is how you can tell he was standing there.
