Palestinian child — The Patriot-News, 23 August 1982

Transcribed from the clipping

“EDITOR: I HAVE a better caption for your photo of the Palestinian child (Aug. 6). It reads like this: If this boy’s father and all his father’s friends did not move into southern Lebanon and rained shells onto Israeli settlements in the Galilee year after year, this boy’s picture would not be in our paper. —David Jacobson, Camp Hill”

Context added by this archive

A reader rewriting a photograph caption. The archive’s subject is what American papers printed about Palestinians, and here a reader is arguing with a caption in the paper’s own letters column, seventeen days after it ran. He does not dispute the photograph. He disputes the sentence under it.
