Conflict hard to ignore as stabbings reach Israeli heartland
By ARON HELLER / Associated Press

Transcribed from the clipping
RISHON LEZION, Israel — Twenty-four-year-old shopkeeper Darya Zelenkov was working her shift in a downtown clothing shop in this central Israeli city when she was startled by a knife-wielding Palestinian trying to burst in. The quick-thinking saleswoman quickly slammed the glass door in his face. "I looked him straight in the eye.
He had this lost look about him," said Zelenkov. "Until yesterday I thought all the troubles were 'there.' I thought it had nothing to do with me." [...] On Herzl street, near the site of the stabbing rampage, outraged residents flung insults at Palestinians, calling them "animals" and "mentally ill" and saying assailants should be killed on the spot.
Pavel Leiderman, 39, said the Palestinian goal was "attrition." "They just want to wear us down until we give them what they want," he said. "As far as I'm concerned, they can have a state so long as I don't have to see them or hear about them anymore. But I don't know if that will be enough for them. If you give a crying baby a lollypop, it just wants more."

Folio reads "A4 | Thursday, November 5, 2015 | LEDGER-ENQUIRER, COLUMBUS, GA. www.ledger-enquirer.com" — masthead and date agree with the label. Photo caption: "In this Monday, Nov. 2, file photo, Israeli rescue personal evacuate a woman after a stabbing attack in Rishon Lezion, Israel.
After years of relative quiet in major Israeli cities, a seven-week burst of violence has brought the Palestinian issue back to the country's heartland and pushed the long-festering issue onto the national agenda." The paper's own spelling "rescue personal" is left as printed. Credit: ARIEL SCHALIT/Associated Press.
