“JERUSALEM — A gunman opened fire in a city near Tel Aviv on Tuesday, killing at least five people in the third deadly attack in Israel in a week, officials said. The shooting in Bnei Brak, an ultra-Orthodox city adjacent to Tel Aviv, was the deadliest yet in a spate of violence that has raised alarms in Israel and threatens to escalate tensions in the Israeli-occupied West Bank… Israel’s prime minister, Naftali Bennett, convened his security chiefs after the shooting and vowed to respond with an ‘iron fist.’… Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the killings, saying the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians ‘only leads to further deterioration.’ Hamas, the Islamic militant group that rules the Gaza Strip, praised the shooting but stopped short of claiming responsibility… Police said the gunman was shot dead by officers… Israel has carried out near-nightly arrest raids in the occupied West Bank…”
