“JERUSALEM — Israeli security forces on Wednesday arrested relatives of a Palestinian gunman who killed five people the previous day and raided his West Bank hometown, as Israel appeared to be laying the groundwork for a broader military operation… Israel’s prime minister said the attacks were the beginning of ‘a new wave of terror’ and vowed to fight it with ‘an iron fist.’… The Israeli military said it arrested the gunman’s father and two of his brothers overnight… Israel routinely arrests family members of Palestinian attackers for questioning and often demolishes their homes, a practice rights groups say amounts to collective punishment… The United Nations has recorded a sharp rise in deadly violence in the West Bank over the past year…”
