“The land of milk and honey has sadly deteriorated since the days when the Israelites took possession of it.” The correspondent describes the country in detail and at length: the plains of Sharon, the terraced hillsides, olive presses, threshing floors, the villages and the tax on the crop. “The people of Palestine had, by all odds, the best lands in Palestine. The plains of Sharon have been worked ever since the days of Abraham.” On the new arrivals: “The Israelitish Alliance, consisting of the Rothschilds and other wealthy Jews, have established a number of agricultural colonies in different parts of Palestine.”
