“PALESTINE RECLAIMED. By Redcliffe N. Salaman, M. D. With an introduction by the Hon. W. Ormsby Gore, M. P. Published by E. P. Dutton & Co. THIS is the story of the Jewish battalions that fought in Palestine during the war and of the numerous colonies of Jews in their ancient homeland.
It is told in a series of letters to the writer’s wife, and forms an interesting commentary on conditions in Palestine and the difficulties that stand in the way of successful colonization.
The author, who is a medical man especially interested in research work, points out the shortcomings of the colonists as unreservedly as he scores the unfriendly attitude of the occupied enemy territory administration which, he says, championed the cause of the Arabs against the Jews because the former are well armed and more likely to give trouble.
The humor of the situation, the author says, lies in the fact that the Arab is sly and untrustworthy and bitterly anti-British, while the Jew is ready to be intensely loyal.”
