IMMIGRATION OF JEWS TO HOLY LAND INFLAMES NATIVE ARABS
K. C. Tourist in Near East Points to Proof of Assertion That No Jews Would Be Left Alive in Holy Land Should British Domination End; Tells of Disquieting Situation.
By BURRIS JENKINS, JR.

Transcribed from the clipping
England has not had time, in spite of the two and a half years since the armistice, to get in much civilizing work in Palestine.
The effect of her rule on Jerusalem could be crammed into three phrases: A well organized police force, slightly cleaner streets and greatly improved roads about the city; all this according to dragomen and members of the American colony and British soldiers, who have been here since the occupation. Outside of these improvements England has been merely watchfully waiting.
There has been some doubt about the legality of the British mandate, and Palestine is still being treated mostly as occupied enemy territory, while the world and England decide her future. The effect, however, of the presence of English rule is tremendous.
A very intelligent Syrian gentleman who was with us on our Nile trip, with his fist clenched and his eyes blazing, said quietly: “Let England sleep for [number illegible] hours, and there would not be a Jew left alive in Palestine.”
For folks, back in America, it would be impossible to believe that statement; but over here, right on the spot, any half informed or half observing person knows that what he said is true. More of this rather terrifying situation later.

Date check: the masthead reads THE KANSAS CITY POST., with the page number 12-A at the left. This matches `pub`. No date is printed in the masthead line on this scan, but the copyright line under the byline reads "(Copyright, 1921, by The Kansas City Post.)", which agrees with the year of the slide date 1921-05-08.
The day and month cannot be verified from the image, but an editor’s note at the foot of the last column refers to the Jaffa rioting of early May 1921 as already past, which is consistent with 1921-05-08.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.
The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.
