ZIONISTS MARK JUBILEE.
Take In $20,000 at Dinner for Purchase of Land in Palestine.

Transcribed from the clipping
The fiftieth anniversary of the beginning of the Jewish colonization work in Palestine and the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of the Jewish National Fund were jointly observed last night with dinner at the Hotel Edison, at which Nahum Sokolow, president of the World Zionist Organization, was the guest of honor.
About 800 persons, including Zionists and non-Zionists, paid $25 a plate, a total of $20,000, which will pay for 800 dunams of land in Palestine (about 200 acres). Deputy Police Commissioner Nelson Rottenberg, president of the fund, who presided, announced that $16,000,000 has been contributed so far in small sums to the fund, the purpose of which is to buy land in Palestine.
Mr. Sokolow, who spoke in Jewish, reviewed the early history and Zionism and appealed to American Jewry to contribute toward the Jewish National Fund.
How this transcription was made
Read from the scan by a machine looking at the image of the page, not by optical character recognition and not by a person. The clipping carries no masthead or date line, so its date and newspaper rest on the record it arrived with, not on anything visible in the scan.
Context added by this archive
Date check: No masthead and no date line appear on this clipping — it is a trimmed single column with a rule at the foot. The slide date of 1932-01-11 cannot be confirmed or contradicted from the image. The story says the dinner was held "last night", so the event fell the day before publication.

The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.
