“MINOR WARFARE in Palestine is important internationally and of tragic interest from racial and religious standpoints. Great Britain is deeply involved in the trouble between Arabs and Jews, and is now in a fairly definite struggle with Jewry… For the present, Great Britain is the policeman. But ahead of that job was the land-apportioning job.
It seems that Arabs became restive over the rapid acquisition of lands by Jews, and the British government ordered cessation of sales. This appears to the Jews to be the final backdown of Great Britain under its mandate in Palestine. The hope for a great Jewish country there seems to have been blasted. Jews now proclaim betrayal by Great Britain.
In this country a group of prominent and influential people urges the president to intercede with the British government ‘in the name of justice and humanity.’ The appeal states that the restriction on land sales in Palestine is of world-wide consequence.
One statement is: ‘This calamitous decree comes at a time when Jews in central and eastern Europe must either emigrate or perish.’”
