On the 1939 restriction of land sales: "It seems that Arabs became restive over the rapid acquisition of lands by Jews, and the British government ordered cessation of sales." Quotes an American appeal: "This calamitous decree comes at a time when Jews in central and eastern Europe must either emigrate or perish."
