TEL AVIV (℗)—Israeli troops, aided by helicopters, fought a running gun battle with suspected El Fatah terrorists in the mountains near the troubled west bank town of Nablus Sunday, the army here said. Thirteen Arab terrorists were captured, 11 of them wounded, an Army spokesman said.

A small arsenal of weapons, including Soviet automatic arms, Czech mines and Syrian hand grenades were seized, he added. It was the second gunfight around Nablus, suspected of being the El Fatah base in the Israeli-occupied west bank, in two days. Saturday night, border police killed one of a gang of terrorists which ambushed them. Another was captured.

No Israeli Casualties There were no Israeli casualties in Sunday’s fight. In Nablus itself, the army said, two Arabs were arrested in possession of a submachine gun. Israeli security patrols are scouring the west bank hills flushing out El Fatah squads, believed to be infiltrating across the Jordan River frontier.

Scores of terrorists and saboteurs have been rounded up in the occupied west bank in the last two weeks, during which Arab terrorism has been intensified. Arabs Gunned Down Military authorities clamped down Friday on Nablus, where merchants are suspected of financing and supplying El Fatah squads known to be hiding in the hills around the town.

Two Arab police sergeants were gunned down in a street cafe last Wednesday by terrorists.

How this transcription was made

Transcribed from a scan of the printed column. NOTHING ON THIS SCAN NAMES THE NEWSPAPER and no date is printed on it, so both the publication and the date rest on the slide label. The label's spelling, 'Tulsa World', matches the archive's existing spelling exactly, so nothing here touches canon. The date is corroborated from inside the story, whose weekday chain runs Friday clamp-down, Saturday night ambush, Sunday gun battle, with Abba Eban in New York 'since he arrived last Monday' for a General Assembly that opened on 19 September 1967; 24 September 1967 was a Sunday, making the Monday the 25th. THIS IS THE SAME ASSOCIATED PRESS DISPATCH AS THE SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS PAGE ON THE PRECEDING SLIDE, set under a different headline with different subheadings and one word changed; the two should be clustered as syndication, not treated as independent reports. The wire credit is set as the AP logotype inside the dateline rather than as a byline. Read from crops magnified to between nine and twelve times page scale.
