“Jerusalem, Nov. 14—(INS)—British troops and local police stood by today for possible trouble resulting from a general strike called by Palestinian Jews in protest against the statement yesterday at London by foreign minister Ernest Bevin of Britain… A broadcast by a secret transmitter of the Jewish defense organization in Jerusalem announced that ‘no matter what decisions are taken, the Jewish people will return to build their homeland.’”
