“Reasons for the fierce resentment of Palestinian Jews were presented by Rabbi Benjamin Friedman to the Women’s Alliance of May Memorial church yesterday afternoon. He reviewed a novel, ‘Thieves in the Night,’ by Arthur Koestler, which traces the fortunes of a young Jew among the new communities of Zionists. ‘They are in no mood to be trifled with,’ said the rabbi. ‘The greatest casualty in the war was the Jews. Of the 600,000 in Palestine… They arrived with bitter memories of 6,000,000 of their people exterminated.’ He illustrated the grim seriousness of life in Palestine by the fact that in all their papers and magazines there is no such thing as a comic section.”
