“We are outraged as human beings — and feel a pressing responsibility to publicize our outrage as Jews — at the genocidal war which Israel is presently waging against the Palestinian, Lebanese and other Arab peoples.
Estimates at the number of Lebanese and Palestinians, mainly civilians, killed in the last couple of weeks range from ten to fifteen thousand, with close to a million newly created refugees. Is this Israel’s Final Solution to the Palestine Question: Genocide?
As citizens of the United States we demand that our government immediately end all military and technological assistance to the Israeli government. Without U.S. military aid the Israeli government could not have waged this brutal attack, inflicted with U.S.-made fighter planes.
We support Mideast negotiations which recognize the right of self-determination for all the parties involved, including the legal representative of the Palestinian peoples, the Palestine Liberation Organization. We ask all peace-loving people to express their outrage at the brutal attacks waged by the Israeli government.
With great sadness that this letter needed writing, we sign ourselves: Jews Against Genocide.”

Eleven named American Jews in Syracuse during the invasion of Lebanon. The paper set the headline, and set it bare. Three other letters run on the same page, one of them headed “Lebanon for Lebanese” and one by a Presbyterian minister headed “Road to Peace?”
