A Holy City Torn By War, Where Hope, Hate Continue
By LOWELL BLANKFORT

Transcribed from the clipping
SIMON said, “There has been enough fighting. Yes, Arabs who had lived in old Palestine have suffered injustices, but that is all past now and we should start anew. Arabs, Jews, Christians—we are all the same people and really the same religion. We must learn to live together in peace.”
How this transcription was made
Transcribed from a scan of the printed page. The date and page number are fixed from the page itself: the folio reads 'A-2—THE STAR-NEWS — Sunday, July 30, 1967', read at twenty-two times page scale, and 30 July 1967 was a Sunday. THE PUBLICATION NAME IS A PROBLEM IN THREE DIRECTIONS AND IS NOT SETTLED. The folio prints 'THE STAR-NEWS', hyphenated and with the definite article. The colophon at the foot of the page prints 'Imperial Beach Star-News / Official Newspaper, City of Imperial Beach / Published every Thursday and Sunday by The Star-News Publishing Co.' The slide label says 'Imperial Beach Star News', unhyphenated. The archive's single existing record is under 'Star News', unhyphenated and without the article. Four forms, no two alike. I have kept the archive's existing spelling so that nothing new is created by accident, and flagged it; see the queries. THE EXCERPT IS ONE PARAGRAPH, deliberately. This is a very large page of small type and most of it will not resolve reliably at this scan size; the paragraph recorded was read twice, from two overlapping crops at nineteen and twenty times page scale that confirm each other line for line. Read from crops magnified to between nineteen and twenty-two times page scale.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.
The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.
Something wrong here, or something you know about this clipping? The archive is still being built and corrections are wanted: maria@rozumstudio.com, quoting CP-1967-063.
