The UN fails on terror

“The United Nations has failed shamefully in its duty by declining to take any action against international terrorism. UN Secretary General Kurt Waldheim himself had urged the General Assembly to act. But since his call came right after the murder of 11 Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics, the Arab states were opposed. They didn’t want anything even resembling condemnation of the Palestinian terrorists. They were joined by the African bloc, which feared that a meaningful anti-terror move could hamper guerrillas in South Africa, Rhodesia and Portuguese colonies in Africa… This showed that with its Afro-Asian-Communist majority, the United Nations is incapable of acting constructively whenever the issue of ‘Zionism,’ ‘racism,’ ‘white rule,’ ‘imperialism’ or ‘capitalism’ is raised — even spuriously.… It is the United Nations which is losing credibility. Its looking more like a political jungle than a forum where men can seek the rule of law.”
