“Occupation authorities said 18,810 ballots were cast by 11 a.m., 5,897 of them by women, who had the vote for the first time. An 80 per cent turnout was expected… Four women are among the 544 candidates… ‘The voters are voting for a refusal of the occupation and more stubborn candidates will be elected,’ said Cana Abdul Hadi, a Nablus city councilman for 17 years…”
