Arab Captives in Gaza Say Israelis Beat Them but Don’t Use Torture
Bernard Edinger

Transcribed from the clipping
“The following dispatch, by Bernard Edinger, was submitted to the Israeli military censors, who requested under Israeli law that 166 words be deleted.”
Context added by this archive
The second censorship artifact in this archive, and the more explicit of the two: the Times tells its readers the exact number of words an Israeli censor took out of the story they are about to read, and prints the story anyway. What survived includes a prisoner’s account of a fellow Arab, suspected of collaborating, slowly roasted over an open fire to make him talk.
The headline splits the difference the censor left behind.
