“UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. General Assembly voted three times Saturday in favor of a declaration that links Zionism with racism… Israeli delegate Ilana Ben Ami told the assembly its actions revived ‘the tendentious formula of 1975’… The General Assembly, acting on a recommendation of its social committee, took these actions: Voted 107-18 with 11 abstentions to approve the conference declaration. Voted 101-19 with 15 abstentions for another resolution endorsing the declaration and asked for a study the idea of establishing an international voluntary fund to help ‘national liberation movements in their struggle against racism and apartheid.’ The Palestine Liberation Organization, which has observer status with the assembly, presumably could request money from such a fund. Voted 98-21 with 16 abstentions for a provision ‘welcoming’ the declaration. When the Geneva conference passed the Israeli-South Africa declaration, 12 countries walked out. They were the nine European Common Market members, Britain, Ireland, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, West Germany and Italy, along with Australia, Canada and New Zealand. They cast ‘no’ votes Saturday. The United States boycotted the Geneva conference and did not participate in the assembly voting.”
