“TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israeli border police firing their weapons to disperse Palestinian demonstrators killed one youth and and wounded two others Saturday in the West Bank town of Nablus, a military spokesman said.

The Palestine Press Service said 2,000 protesters marched through Nablus after Nasser Sarisi, 17, was killed, chanting in English and Arabic: ‘PLO! Israel no!’ and ‘No to the occupation!’ According to the Israeli command, the border police were attacked by scores of rock-throwing youths shouting support for the Palestine Liberation Organization.

It said the police shot into the air to disperse the crowd, but when the attacks continued they fired at the demonstrators’ feet. It made no mention of police casualties, but the Palestine Press Service said one officer was injured.

The military command’s report on the Nablus shootings said Sarisi died in a hospital and the two other youths were treated for leg wounds. There did not appear to be any particular event that sparked the Nablus demonstration.

It was the first fatality in a West Bank demonstration this year, although a Palestinian was shot and killed earlier this month during a car chase after he passed a military roadblock.”
