“The Shuhada Street project… was paid for and supervised by the United States Agency for International Development… the work is ending three months behind schedule and about $1 million over its budget… vandalism by Jewish settlers opposed to reopening the street to Arab traffic.”

Joel Greenberg, three and a half years after the massacre. Spanish street lights, palm trees, flower beds and new brick sidewalks on Shuhada Street, the road closed to Palestinians after the mosque, paid for by American taxpayers through USAID and vandalised by settlers who did not want it reopened to Arab traffic. The street has not reopened since.
