Israel’s acts

Shown from the top. The whole column — 3.1 times taller than it is wide — is in the enlargement.
Transcribed from the clipping
In reference to Bob Feferman’s July 17 Viewpoint column, I wish to make the following observations. I would like to know if during his trip to Israel, Feferman visited the occupied territories, including Gaza and the refugee camps. As for the partition of Palestine, it is true that the Arabs did not accept it.
If someone were to say to Feferman: “I am entitled to half your house. You and your relatives can live in the rest of the house, as long as you don’t complain,” would Feferman accept that as a just act? There are vast places in this country where not many people live: deserts, badlands, etc.
Would it be all right for another country to colonize them and claim them as its own? The view from the top of the Carmel Mountains is beautiful indeed. Not so beautiful are the unrecognized villages inside Israel where no electricity, roads or other services are provided.
Less than beautiful are the hundreds of checkpoints where Palestinians stand in line like cattle and are at the mercy of Israeli Defense Forces soldiers; where sometimes babies are born, and sick people die. In my view, Israel commits state terrorism in the occupied territories on a daily basis. There is no justice in that.
How this transcription was made
Read from the scan by a machine looking at the image of the page, not by optical character recognition and not by a person. The clipping carries no masthead or date line, so its date and newspaper rest on the record it arrived with, not on anything visible in the scan.
Context added by this archive
Date check: No masthead, folio or printed date appears on this clipping — it is a trimmed letters page and the section head at the top is cut off. The letter refers to “Bob Feferman’s July 17 Viewpoint column”, which is consistent with a late-July or August 2010 letters page, but nothing dates the page and nothing names the newspaper.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.
The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.
