Israel hasn’t wanted peace in Gaza

“Rae LaMarche’s Nov. 21 letter missed a few important events, such as an Israeli incursion into Gaza on Nov. 8 that left a 13-year-old Palestinian boy dead. On Nov, 14 Israeli forces launched dozens of strikes in Gaza, killing at least two Hamas members, including the head of Hamas’ military wing, Ahmed al-Jabari, and at least five civilians.
The strikes wounded at least 115 people, including 26 children and 25 women. There were serious efforts to calm the situation and reach a truce. But clearly Israel had another agenda. By targeting Ahmed al-Jabari, leader of the al-Qassam Brigade, it sabotaged Egyptian efforts to conclude a truce between all Palestinian factions and the Israelis.
That was confirmed by Egypt’s president on Nov. 17. In 2008 there was a peace treaty until Israel killed some Hamas leaders. How many incursions into Israel from Gaza in the last six years? How many from Israel into Gaza? LaMarche said, ‘Why do the Palestinians lose more than the Israelis?
Because Israelis hide their civilians in bomb shelters instead of hiding their bombs in civilian areas.’ Go to Gaza, the most densely populated place on Earth, and find a place where there are not civilians. LaMarche also said, ‘Israel has the right to defend itself.’ So do the Gazans. Don’t like indiscriminate bombing of civilians in Israel?
Give the Gazans better weapons so they will only strike military targets.”
