“GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — The death toll from three days of fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip rose to 48 on Thursday… Layan al-Shaer, 11, died of wounds sustained in an Israeli strike… Her father, Hani al-Shaer, said she had been playing outside… The dead include Nayef al-Awdat, 14, and Mohammed Abu Ktaifa, 8… Israel says some of the children were killed by rockets that fell short. The Palestinian rights group Al Mezan attributes all of the deaths to Israeli fire…”
