“JENIN, West Bank — Ishmael Hussam, 24, returned to find his street torn up… Fathya al-Sadi, 69, a widow, had sheltered with her grandchildren while the bulldozers worked. ‘The children were screaming; I had to hug them all the time,’ she said… Fadi Shibly said his brother Hussein had been killed… Nidal Al-Obeidi, the mayor, put the damage in the millions… Gabriel Naumann of Doctors Without Borders said ambulances had been blocked… Adi Carmi, a former Israeli security official, said the operation would not change the underlying situation…”
