How this transcription was made

The scan is the headline block; there is no body text on it to transcribe. The page was corrected against the New York Times’s own article index, which places this piece on page 6 of that day’s paper. The record previously carried page 1.

Context added by this archive

The New York Times, 1912, in its own headline voice: colonists, and the verb is redeem. This is the clipping the colonization section of this archive is built around, and the last of its four lines is the one people miss — Foreign Jews Furnishing Capital and Executive Ability to Make the Natives Self-Supporting.

Every element of a colonial prospectus is in it: foreign capital, executive ability, and natives who are to be made self-supporting. Nobody hid any of this; it was the selling point.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.

The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.

Something wrong here, or something you know about this clipping? The archive is still being built and corrections are wanted: maria@rozumstudio.com, quoting CP-1912-001.
